We often hear the refrain: “If we don’t learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it,” and sure enough, we do it all the time. We rely on politicians that tell us everything is okay when it isn’t. The growing chaos that’s happening in America right now are similar to the precursors that preceded the Spanish Civil War of 1936. Winston Churchill understood European politics and watched the developing Spanish internal conflict, thru the eyes of a British politician concerned about the growing militarization of Germany and a new Europe war.
Churchill, accused of the WWI British Military fiasco at Gallipoli, Turkey, was excluded from participating in the post WWI deliberations of the League of Nations. He watched the growing Nazi menace that threatened Europe while seeing the British Government struggling to understand how to avoid the events they knew they couldn’t, preparing for another European war. Britain needed to rearm and upgrade, and they weren’t ready. Churchill might have been out, but he wasn’t ignored. His published views hung over the British Government like shadows on the wall, warning over and over again, what was coming at ’em. He studied the growing Nazi military machine created in violation of the Versailles Treaty that concluded WWI. He argued with the British appeasers, politicians dragging their feet incapable of making a decision without total agreement of the other British cabinet members. Churchill was also wary of the expanding Communist menace from Soviet Russia which danger he understood implicitly because Soviet agents were meddling in governments all over Europe.
Of special concern was Spains growing civil disorder while watching the collapsing European political situation; who allied with whom, who didn’t and why. Churchill knew another European war was coming and that Great Britain was not even remotely prepared. In July, 1936, Spain a country with a parliamentary-monarchy form of government, like Great Britains, was in political turmoil facing a Communist revolution, like we are experiencing here in America right now. Addressing the Spanish problem Churchill wrote:
“It is part of the Communist doctrine and drillbook, laid down by Lenin himself, that Communism should aide all movements toward the Left and help into office weak Constitutional, Radical, or Socialist governments. These they should undermine, and from their falling hands, snatch absolute power and found a Marxist State.”….Winston Churchill.” Are we reminded of Mamdami for New York or Dearborn, Michigan lot?
Using Spain as an example, certain precursors to unrest, like we see happening here now, was happening there. Spain’s strength had not been squandered on foreign wars so the Spanish Army was still basically loyal to the faltering government but, the Socialist revolutionary government was not loyal to its army. The Spanish Generals saw the Communist (Russian) conspiracy against their government, secretly developed their own counter plans. The Spanish Parliamentary system was dissolving in chaos as the Spanish Communists seized government power. The core Communists cadre had grown strong enough to believe they had enough political strength that they could just snatch their enemies off the streets or out of their beds at night and kill them. When they murdered a leading Monarchist politician, Minister of Finance, José Calvo Sotelo, the wicked deed moved the Spanish Army to action starting their Civil War. Similarly, we must understand that the two attempts to kill Donald Trump and the successful one that killed Charlie Kirk as well as the multiple other murders being committed at Americas schools, shopping malls, churches and synagogs, are to be seen in the same light!
The Spanish Minister of War had been warned by Gen. Franco that if the government (now communist) couldn’t maintain law and order, the Army would intervene. When the Army’s Chief of Staff, Gen. Sanjurjo was killed in a plane crash, Franco took over. America’s military, after Democrats took control, was changed to a “Woke” organization of lap-dog followers dedicated not do what Franco did when the government fell, round up the usual suspects, but become a social engineering experiment so Americas military was effectively disarmed. Trump and Hegseth put a stop to that nonsense.
Basically, the Spanish Army stayed loyal despite the new government. Spanish sailors on the other hand, swayed by the Communists, killed their officers and joined the socialist side. Regional Catholic Church Dioceses sided with Franco while the Communists gained control of the country side and, the Spanish Civil War was underway with wholesale massacres of political opponents, fighters and peasants. Franco’s Army, representing the monarchy side, returned vengeance for vengeance with executions of captured soldiers and communists agitators.
This essay is not to re-examine Spains 1930’s growing pains but reveal the similarities between Spains history and what we ‘haven’t’ learned from it. The common denominator is the usual source of mischief, the hidden hand of the Soviet Communists stirring up hatreds between Spains social classes. Using the same argument’s today, privilege over need with Islam added to the mix, Americas Communist chaos continues. For us today, the supposed catalyst for civil unrest is Trumps determined removal of the millions of illegals Biden allowed to crash our borders. He even gave them Tee Shirts. The modern Democrat-Socialist Party (Communist) is America’s greatest danger. Islam is a close second!
As dictator, Franco ruthlessly solved Spains political dysfunction. He brutally eliminated the Communists and, while the German Luftwaffe aided his side, he didn’t ally with Germany in Hitlers war. Because he prevailed over the Spanish communists, tourists today can safely visit Spain unlike America, without fear of being killed on the streets. Franco brought control back to Spain and people were relieved the killings stopped. Donald Trump, is in no way a Franco style dictator but he is a dynamic leader bringing sane control back to America, but not like Franco did. America does not shoot its political enemies by firing squads, yet!
Other similarities are that the ranks of the Democrat-Socialists party is filled with dysfunctional advocates wanting to tear America down and are willing to assassinate conservatives to do it. We have already witnessed two attempts to kill Donald Trump and a successful one that killed Charlie Kirk, an advocate for Christian moral living and free speech. The Lefts carnage continues as well, Church goers, students in schools, shoppers in malls and specifically, Jewish victims considered targets because of what they are, victims of hate. The hand of the Communist mind can be measured in the chaos we are experiencing. The Soviet Union may be gone but the ideals of Marxist-Lenin still lie festering in the souls of the old guard, spilling into the minds of the new. To ensure Americas safety, Americans must rally behind Donald Trump. When that’s done, we can truly Make America Great Again.
