Our Government: Does the Two-Party System Still Work for the People?

by George McClellan July 6, 2026 Guest Editorial

What we have long suspected, we now pretty much know for sure: politicians of both parties are easily corrupted. Those who succumb to the siren call of free cash, invitations to the influential cocktail-circuit crowd, and free airplane rides to their favorite holiday destinations represent an endemic, continuing crisis to fair and honest government. Does the two-party system create a built-in obstacle to passing legislation that is true and honest for the American people, or has government simply become an organized crime racket that serves its own members? We know the answer to that question. The next question is: what do we do about it?

First, we have to have some kind of government, and, like it or not, we have long relied on a two-party system that originally rose out of the swamp water of colonial and revolutionary politics. Today, both of those parties that endured the Civil War still exist. However, the “New Deal” Democratic Party of FDR is being taken over by a group of Marxist radicals who, if they gain ascendancy in the House, will stymie Trump’s pro-American agenda. They call for implementing anti-Second Amendment laws to protect themselves from outraged Americans once the public realizes their government is no longer an American Republic, but a clone of the Soviet Union—a failed state whose Marxist-Leninist ideals simply won’t die.

My parents came west out of the Dust Bowl, the Colorado coal mines, and the Depression looking for a better life, and they found it. Both hated the New Deal and remained solid Republicans all their lives—until Obama came along, and then they voted Democrat. Surprising, because they never did that when they were alive.

Today, the politics of both parties are in flux. The Democrats’ party has been riddled with failed ideas, yet they continue to push communism as a preferred style of government. Meanwhile, enough RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) either cannot or refuse to understand the American gift returned to them by Donald Trump, stubbornly refusing to cooperate in passing the “Save America Act.” Why? For their own personal aggrandizement. To save the party, these GOP crypto-Democrats have to be culled out. One argument floated for success is term limits, but that is what elections are supposed to be for—though it may explain why certain RINO Senators don’t want to pass the Save America Act.

Radical Left Democrats have pushed traditional New Deal Democrats almost entirely out of office in blue jurisdictions. They do this because the promise of socialism—free rent, free transportation, government food stores, and free medical care—allegedly raises the hopes of the uneducated and unmotivated masses who are unable to enter the workforce in any meaningful, contributing way. That is why top-down government assurances that people can survive at a bare level of existence always fail. China’s Chairman Mao Tse-tung sent these types of people into the hinterlands to plant and harvest rice, study his “Little Red Book,” and learn to become pliant little communists.

The Chinese today still pretend they are communists, but they’re not! They are industrialists bent on world trade, and they will never go back unless they are forced to do so. Yet, our Democratic Socialist Party wants to reprise America in the image of 1940s China. It isn’t going to happen!

If we are going to repair the two-party system before we replace it with something worse, how about demanding that members of Congress—both the House and Senate—enter into the federal Civil Service system for their pay, retirement, and healthcare? I’ll wager Bernie Sanders (now a socialist millionaire), AOC, and Ilhan Omar won’t vote for that idea. The sad thing is that the U.S. Constitution tends to be specific on the duties and responsibilities of what the federal government and individual states can and cannot do, except they got fuzzy with compensation. Article XXVII states: “No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.” That’s it! The way things are today, we can believe all things are possible and the variables are infinite. To that, we might add: confusion reigns and chance governs all.

Then we have the Supreme Court, one of three equal branches of government, which generally tries to adhere to the Constitution but occasionally fails. How many years did it take to correct Roe v. Wade? They are not infallible, and yet, when it suits them, they will rule on any law the majority wants. The latest example of their misguided understanding is their ruling on birthright citizenship—a decision so outlandish and destructive to American principles and America’s future that it is mind-boggling to know at least two conservative Justices voted for it. These two, Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett, may well have been blackmailed for some indiscretion or another. We’ll never know!

Some may ask: how do I know? In 1962, as a U.S. soldier, I was posted to Korea. It was a great posting, but I met village women who were pregnant and bragging about going to America to have their babies. Doing so would prevent the South Korean government from drafting their sons into the army. That was their sole reason—not a passport or a trip to the big PX, simply to keep their sons out of the military. Today, Chinese women are sent to America by their government to become citizens, get the passport, and later be trained as spies or inserted as soldiers into America’s population for a future takeover. (They’ll have to defeat the Muslims first, but that’s their problem).

Our government knows this, yet the lawmakers still haven’t caught on and refuse to take action. They should act now in light of the Supreme Court’s decisions, but they won’t. They will cling to the idea of “fairness” because acting on the truth is dangerous to their careers. We know that those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything, so why do we need them? What is needed is a fast, efficient way to remove them from office, entirely outside of their own self-serving rules for doing so. Rules of ethics in Congress are meaningless because almost all members profit, and they won’t give that up. They rage on about Donald Trump being a multi-millionaire, but I don’t care at all. He came to office already wealthy and he made promises he is keeping; the two parties need to support him in doing so, or they are not needed at all.

Historically, attempts at creating third American political parties have all ended in failure. I won’t name them all, as they can easily be researched on the internet, but they never come to meaningful fruition. They fail to claim enough voters to become legitimate, yet they manage to draw enough voters away—usually from the Republican Party—to allow the Democrats to prevail. It was a normal part of the political process allowed in American politics, until recently when the Democratic Party allowed itself to fall victim to the siren promises of Marxism-Leninism. Now come the Islamic Jihadists who demand personal recognition and the acceptance of Sharia law.

We’ve just participated in the country’s 250th anniversary with parades, barbecues, and fireworks, and yet many events were canceled—not only by the weather, but by the barbarians the Obama and Joe Biden administrations ushered into our country, not to mention our own inner-city youths intent on venting their hopeless outrage on a country they feel owes them a living.
